Rapid Platform Migration Saves Client $100k Per Month

Dramatically improved performance allowing them to process twice the number of transactions in half the time. Solution was scalable to meet business growth objectives. Eliminated the need to use Oracle Goldengate, thus saving the client a minimum of $30,000 per year in licensing & administrative costs. Created a system that was easier and more efficient for the client to manage.

What was unique?

  • Cost was reduced due to incorporating this project into SRG’s Rapid Platform Migration methodology and incorporating a Flexible Time and Skillset model, factoring the project into already ongoing support.

  • The collaborative approach incorporated multiple facets of the project in order to keep costs to a minimum while maintaining efficiencies.

  • The end product allowed the client to add several hundred thousand dollars per month in revenue while reducing their licensing liabilities by more than 25%.

Problem

Aging infrastructure

Unsupported software

Complex integration

Client was misled by Oracle

Poorly performing architecture

Improper use of Oracle Goldengate

Our client asked SRG to create a strategy to migrate from old platform and onto a new environment and to mitigate licensing liabilities. Client also wanted to move off of Goldengate to reduce costs and improve efficiencies. The end goal was to build a long-term, scalable environment to provide superior performance and cost savings, as well as a platform for business growth with easy management and maintenance.

Solution

Initially, we conducted a performance assessment to identify all facets of the project. The client had already purchased Oracle Database Appliance (ODA) before engaging SRG, so they asked us to make it work for them so as to not “throw away” that investment. Being a relatively new product at the time, the Oracle Database Appliance X5-2 with Infiniband experienced some challenging issues and required Oracle support. SRG worked with both the client and Oracle to remedy these issues, making ODA work for the client without an additional purchase.

We then worked in collaboration with the client to create a plan for migration as a fixed-price project and offered ongoing support, using SRG’s Rapid Platform Migration process as a baseline and tailoring it specifically to the client’s needs. Throughout the migration our client received regular updates and weekly status reports, and on-site and remote delivery kept communication clear and transparent. We made SRG’s unique Data Transfer Appliance available to the project at no additional cost to reduce dramatically the production migration window and provided knowledge transfer, support and continued escalation.
